We have such an eclectic and diverse compilation of recipes when we gather them together in one place as I have attempted to do here.    We have a core or "backbone"  of foods that our families brought with them when they came to settle the West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio areas of the United States.
As best as I can tell from my limited current research, most of the early settlers in this area came from Scotland and Northern England.  It doesn't seem that many of our early clan attained any great level of affluence. Thus, many recipes that we now treasure were modified by the use of local indigenous game and because of the inability to afford many "store-bought" foods.  We grew gardens on the side of mountains, raised hogs, chickens, ducks, and maybe a goat or two on the opposite side of the holler that we kept our hunting dogs.
And then we struck out across the land, across the oceans, and back again.  We took wives and husbands along the way and with them came influences from their rich cultures.

We have served our country in all branches of the military.  Our favorite foods now come from virtually every corner of the planet and certainly all regions of the United States.
Many of these recipes were taken directly into our families without embellishment.  Still others, in our opinionated character, we adjusted, modified, changed, or as we are fond of saying, "improved."  Imagine that!
It is my most sincere intent to solicit input from all of our families far and wide.  Come celebrate our heritage and get to know your family.  Get in the kitchen, bring some love, and get cookin'!
Oh, and bring your children with you.  Cooking as a family must surely place a close second to praying as a family.  We teach and pass down what character means, how to develop relationships, how to love, how to give constructive criticisms, and how to express one's self in a positive way.  We teach and learn how to share in both the efforts and the rewards.
     This is the "good stuff!"
